CARRICKFERGUS' British Supersport champion Alastair Seeley was celebrating this past weekend as he scooped a double award at the Adelaide Motorcycle Awards ceremony in the Ramada Hotel in Belfast.
The reigning Supersport champion was presented with the Joey Dunlop Trophy as he was crowned the Enkalon Irish Motorcyclist of the Year by the public, fending off stiff opposition from Ulster road race specialist Michael Dunlop and World Superbike's Eugene Laverty.
Seeley also clinched the 'Race of the Year' award after eclipsing fierce rival Ben Wilson in a gripping championship finale at Brands Hatch.
Speaking to the Carrick Advertiser, a humbled Alastair said: "This is the icing on the cake - it's very special to be honoured with this award.
“It's such a prestigious award and there are some legend's name on there past and present and for me to be included in that now is a huge honour. Joey Dunlop is a hero of mine and I watched him in the North West and TT races so this is means a lot to me".
Reflecting on the past year's success, he said: "I couldn't have asked for more, really. To be on a 53 point deficit and then claw it back and go on to win the championship has been a dream come true for me - I'm just hoping I can be just as successful this year as I was last".
