Rangers through to next round thumbnailPaul McDowell opens the scoring for Carrick Rangers in their Irish Cup game against Killymoon Rangers.CC0320

KILLYMOON RANGERS 1, CARRICK RANGERS 3: CARRICK Rangers progress comfortably through to the Sixth Round of the JJB Sports Irish Cup and a meeting with Linfield, after comfortably seeing off Championship 2 side Killymoon Rangers.
Paul McDowell set Carrick on their way, tapping the ball in from close range on 18 minutes.
Killymoon, though, responded soon afterwards, with Smith firing past keeper Declan Brown from 20 yards, after the visitors had given the ball away cheaply in midfield.
Anto Lagan, back playing up front, restored Carrick's lead on 39 minutes, after seizing onto an undercooked back pass.
Lagan inflicted more damage just before half time - a blistering volley from just inside the box, which rocketed in via the crossbar. Carrick were in cruise control in the second session, with the Mid Ulster side never really looking like eating into that two goal lead.
Lagan was denied a third when his header flashed just fractionally wide. Making a good impression on his debut was new recruit, on loan Linfield midfielder Marcus Kane. Carrick, too, thought they should have had a penalty when Grant Hutchinson went down inside the box, but the referee was unimpressed.
Carrick Rangers; Brown - West, McAlinden, Owens, Hogan - Murray, Deans, Hutchinson (Taggart), Kane - Lagan, McDowell. Subs (unused) Brennan, bell, Addis, Smith.
