Larne can’t find winning form

McDonagh and Dempsey post another run for Larne.
LARNE 1st XI, who are sponsored by the Curran Court Hotel, returned to Sandy Bay for the first time since May.
The club did not make a winning return being well beaten by promotion contenders Donacloney.
Larne skipper Gareth Gaw won the toss and elected to bowl first, hoping that the ball would move around on a green pitch but the pitch played well and Donacloney batted well to post a score of 209-9 in their full 50 overs.
Robert McKinley took the new ball for Larne and in keeping with his season bowled beautifully but with no luck in a 5 over burst.
The early breakthroughs were made by Jonathan King who was running into a stiff breeze as he dismissed both openers, one of which thanks to a catch by Richard Hood.
Chris Dempsey replaced McKinley and began his spell well and was very unlucky not to get an lbw decision in his favour but he began to struggle with the greasy ball and remained wicketless.
Gareth Alexander had a go into the wind and picked up a wicket just before drinks when Trevor Dempsey took a sharp catch standing up to the stumps and at the halfway stage of the innings Donacloney were well placed on 104-3.
The mainstay of the Donacloney innings was former Ireland international Carson who batted well for his 48 before he was dismissed by Paul Ramsay and he was well supported by Martin who hit a quick 32 before he was trapped lbw by Gaw.
Ramsay and Gaw bowled their 20 overs in unison and both were doing a good job as they kept the run rate below 4 runs an over, with each claiming another wicket.
McKinley returned to bowl at the death and was finally rewarded for his efforts as he claimed 2 wickets and conceded just 14 runs from his 7 overs.
The Larne bowling performance was fairly good and they were happy to keep such a strong batting lineup to just over 200 but the fielding was way below the standard expected.
