IRISH road racing suffered another setback at Saturday'ys 65th Skerries 100, when Myles Byrne from Dunshaughlin was killed instantly in an 100mph crash during the opening lap of the Grand Final.
Until the fatal accident in which a spectator was injured the large crowd were entertained to a superb days racing over the 2.9 miles circuit.
Flyin Ryan Farquhar, who was declared 'Man of the Meeting' set the ball rolling with a comfortable SuperTwins victory over John Burrows with popular Czech Republic rider Michael Dokoupil a distant third.
Win number two for Farquhar came in the Open Race, which was a battle royal with close adversaries Keith Amor and Michael Dunlop.
It was Scotsman Keith Amor who put his BMW into the lead from the drop of the flag, with Farquhar and Michael Dunlop snapping at his heels.
Farquhar aboard the KMR Kawasaki waited until two laps from the end before making his move to take the lead which he maintained until the chequered flag, 3.4 seconds clear of Amor who just edged out Dunlop in third place.
In a Honda dominated 250cc race, Michael Dunlop led from start to finish easing away to an 11 seconds lead over Davy Morgan who was almost caught by William Dunlop, claiming third place on corrected time, having started from the back of the field.
It was William Dunlop on the small two=stroke machine versus Ryan Farquhar riding his 450cc single Kawasaki who made the running in the shortened 125cc race.
The flying duo made a phenomenal sight as they battled nose to tail for the lead around the narrow country roads.
It was anyone's race, until two laps from the end when Dunlop slipped through to score a very popular half a second win over Farquhar, both riders well clear of Paul Robinson in third.
The Supersport race was probably the best race of the day, producing a rivetting dice between the Dunlop brothers, Ryan Farquhar and Keith Amor, with never more than inches apart as they tried to gain the advantage.
Under severe pressure, Farquhar held a slight lead, but in the closing stages Amor got his head down and took over.
Going into the final lap the quartet were within touching distance of each other and as they thundered under the chequered flag it was Amor edging out Farquhar, Michael and William Dunlop in that order.
William Davidson won the 600cc and Open non-qualifiers race with David Yeomans taking the Senior Support race honours.
Manxman Alan Brew and Robert McCrum were the respective Junior and Senior Classic race winners.
