MEMBERS of Larne and District travelled to Ballycastle for one of its planned boat competitions of 2010.
The sea was moderate, so unfortunately fishing was closer to the shores of Ballycastle than Rathlin.
The rain stayed at bay all day to allow everyone the comfort too fish leisurely.
During the start of the day the club fished for fresh bait which included Mackeral, lance, and sand eel.
Soon the competition had started with tails of Dogfish being landed all around the boat.
The skipper Shaun McFaul soon anchored the boat with the hope of some rays being landed, but only Sand dabs and Gurard seemed to appear, this was a great help to Gannon Robinson who seemed to catch one at each drop much too the envy of others.
Samuel Auld landed a new club record and a rare species to the clubs boat list which was a Long Spinded Sea Scorpian a very extroadinary looking fish definately not for the dinner table.
The boat moved to various locations where other species could be caught, but this added to Gannons advantage as he kept catching everything possible.
This was Gannons day as he lept ahead of his nearest adversary with various species landed, maybe it was his traces or his new boat rod, either way it was definately years of experience that concluded his first place trophy win.
Samuel Auld came second with a very close third place going too Alastair Law.
Everyone enjoyed their day with compliments to the skipper Shaun McFaul of the Boat Lady Linda for endeavoring to help us catch as many species as possible.
The clubs next outing is a boat trip from Portrush with Robin Cardwell as usual, weather permitting.
This Thursday evening (8th July), the club will hold its usual club meeting at 8:00pm within the Pigeon Club on the Old Glenarm Road anyone with interest in joining one of the biggest clubs in Northern Ireland are most welcome to come along and make enquiries.
Tight lines too all over the forthcoming weeks.
