MOSSLEY YM 1.
ARDGLASS 3.
ARDGLASS now go top of Division 1C following this victory over Mossley Young Men at the 'new Glade'.
Hoping to banish the memory of their last home outing, when they were hit for six by the Cricketers of Derriaghy, Mossley began promisingly, with Glyn Boyd and Kyle Harper getting to grips with the middle third.
The two combined, too, to release Gareth McKinney whose right wing cross was saved by the Ardglass netminder.
A left wing delivery from Brian Ramsey then found Gary Orr all alone around the penalty spot, but the striker had more time than he realised, and his hurried shot was saved by the visitors' keeper.
Orr went close again, put through this time by Ross, and while his angled drive was parried by the keeper, the ball rolled tantalisingly along the line, with no Mossley player following up to get the decisive touch.
Generally, defenders Jim Scott and Jordan Armstrong were coping comfortably with Ardglass's highly rated striker, but it was 'Glass who shattered the stalemate on the half hour, with an effort that was surely more cross than shot, which looped over the head of the helpless Dwayne Jenkins, sailing in, just inside the back post.
Just minutes later, Mossley were dealt another blow, when Gary McCord really ought to have dealt with a ball bouncing into the box, but the striker nipped in, shrugging off Armstrong, before depositing the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Mossley thus could feel a little hard done by at going off at the break, two goals down. Brian Ramsey, on the receiving end of a few hefty challenges, didn't re-appear for the second half; Kenny McCartney stepping off the bench, to partner Orr up front, with Ross dropping into midfield.
McCartney, too, almost made an instant impression, cutting in from the right but rifling his shot just the wrong side of the crossbar.
Orr went even closer when his header, from Ross's left wing cross, was nodded off the line.
Mossley were certainly still well in the hunt, though their cause wasn't helped when Ryan Whiteside, just about to be substituted, was shown a straight red for a two footed challenge.
Manager Glen McIntyre did make the change, introducing Keith McManus, with McKinney the player to make way. Indeed, it was a McManus cross that was only half cleared 15 minutes from time, with right back Gary McCord thundering the loose ball into the top corner from some 25 yards.
Mossley brought defender Gary McAllister oft the bench, tossing him up front for the final fling, but, apart from a McManus free kick that smacked off the Ardglass wall, they never really troubled the visitors rearguard - and indeed it was the County Down side who made doubly sure, exposing the space at the back to notch a last gasp third on the counter attack.
The two sides, oddly enough, have to do it all over again next Saturday, when they travel to Ardglass, and perhaps should be consoled by history suggesting that winning back to back matches tends to be difficult.
Mossley YM; Jenkins - McCord, Armstrong, Scott, Whiteside - McKinney (McManus), G Boyd (McAllister), Harper, Ramsey (McCartney) - Orr, Ross.
Meanwhile, also in 1C, 18th Newtownabbey Old Boys lost 10-2 away to Ballywalter Rec. Mark Elliott and Kyle Keatings got their goals.
