The annual UCA President's Ball welcomed pharmacists, local politicians and industry representatives from across Northern Ireland to celebrate the Carrick man's year in office and their profession's success in the Pharmacy in Focus Awards.
The sparkling occasion, which is the highlight of the pharmacy industry calendar, was attended by 520 guests and outgoing Ulster Chemists' Association president, Jonathan Lloyd from Health Centre Pharmacy in Carrickfergus. Jonathan said: "The Pharmacy in Focus Awards demonstrate how pharmacy works for its local communities. We are constantly striving in Health Centre Pharmacy to improve our services to in turn improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Carrickfergus. We also endeavour to provide greater health promotion to encourage our customers to make informed decisions about their own health."
12 awards, known as CHEMIs were presented with a special award for Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy going to Jim Malcolm, from Sangers (NI) Ltd in East Belfast. Over £5000 was raised for the event's benefitting charity, Diabetes UK NI and family favourite UTV's Alison Fleming hosted proceedings.
This is the fifth year that the awards have been presented and the occasion was attended by MLAs Jim Wells, Mark H Durkan and John McCallister.
Jason Andrews, Director of Profile Event Management who organised the awards was delighted with the enthusiasm of the winners and the success of the event.
Jason added: "The annual UCA president's ball has always been something that pharmacists from across Northern Ireland look forward to but, with the addition of the awards, it really has become an event that no-one in the industry wants to miss out on. This year's ceremony was bigger and better than ever and it was a real privilege for the team at Profile Event Management to organise it.
“The Pharmacy in Focus Awards provide an opportunity to recognise and reward those shining lights and entrepreneurs within community pharmacy. I would like to extend my personal congratulations to all the winners and to thank our main sponsors Sangers (NI) Ltd, AAH Pharmaceuticals and Phoenix Healthcare Distribution.
All of our winners richly deserved the recognition they have been given and I am delighted by the positive feedback from all those who attended."
