THE winner of this year's Dr W M Loughridge Memorial Trust Bursary is Stuart Davis, from Carrickfergus.
Stuart, a former pupil of Carrickfergus Grammar School, was presented with the bursary and shield by the late Dr Loughridge's son Dale at a ceremony hosted by Carrickfergus Mayor Jim McClurg in the Mayor's Parlour on December 29.
Stuart is now studying medicine at Dundee University. Mrs Sandra Swann explained that the bursary is awarded to the pupil going on to study medicine who gains the highest marks at A-Level and lives in the borough of Carrickfergus.
Dr Loughridge practiced in Carrickfergus for 37 years and his influence on the quality of life in the borough was considerable, because he not only served his patients with dedication and great skill but also made an outstanding contribution to the community through his many and varied interests.
Victor Hart, Secretary of the Trustees said: "Today studying at University has become expensive and it is great to be able to help and encourage students in a tangible way".
