Busy Summer for the YMCA Woodburn Parents and Kids Together group

Donegal and Woodburn PAKT families on their joint outing to the Omagh American Folk park. SA3617
THE summer started off with a joint visit to the Omagh American Folk Park with families from the Donegal YMCA PAKT group. Altogether some 72 people went on the trip and everyone had a really good day out.
The two project leaders Jim Crothers and Marygrace Hawthorn said they could not have asked for a better day - the weather and fun and the centre were all great.
They are now trying to organise a further trip with an overnight stay for the autumn
After the return from the trip, it was straight into the PAKT summer scheme, which was hosted by Woodlawn Presbyterian church. The scheme featured a mix of educational and fun events for both the children and parents who are PAKT members. The final day had a grand finale of a go-kart competition and presentation of certificates to all those who had completed courses during the year.
It was a good fun, but also a chance to say goodbye and thank you to the children and families who are leaving the project.
At the end of summer scheme, the project staff got down to a series of meetings to plan the next years work . This involves, publicity, meeting new parents, planning programme events, ensuring tutors and trainers are available for all the activities. They have got an excellent schedule of activities for next commencing in September. They include out door pursuits, personal development, training for employment and health and well -being classes. The crèche facility will open Monday to Thursday 10.00 am to 12.30 pm for all parents taking part in courses.
The after schools group meets 3 .00 pm to 5.00pm Monday to Thursday as well. One new staff member joined the team Jeannie Mahood and one team member Madeline Barry has left, as she is moving from the area. Everyone wishes them both the best for the future. Jeannie will be busy in the area meeting with parents who may be interested in registering with the PAKT group.
The Woodburn PAKT is going to have a Fun Day on Saturday 13th September 1pm to 4pm at Sunnylands Community Centre, with lots of fun for the parents and kids.
