Warning about bogus letter

Wednesday, 3 September 2008

A CARRICKFERGUS man has cautioned local people to be on the lookout for bogus letters being delivered to homes in the borough which claim that people have won the lottery.
The letters from an organisation calling itself the Spanish Loteria Primitiva tells recipients they have won hundreds of thousands of pounds and asks them to send details of their bank accounts.
George McCaigue from Castlemara received the letter last Saturday but he immediately spotted that it was not genuine.
He said: "People should watch out for it and don't give their account numbers. I have heard of someone who did give an account number and their account was cleared out the next day."
The letter claims that the recipient's name was selected through a computer ballot system and an account number was needed to deposit the money.
